Sam Horn drafted

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Missouri right-handed pitcher Sam Horn on Saturday with the final pick of the 17th round of the MLB Amateur draft. Horn was chosen at pick No. 525.
Horn became the eighth Tiger pitcher drafted since the 2023 draft. He joined Ryan Magdic, Carter Rustad and Bryce Mayer in 2024 and Austin Troesser, Zack Franklin and Chandler Murphy in 2023. The Tigers also had third baseman Luke Mann drafted in 2023.
Horn theoretically could play football for the Tigers this fall as he competes for the starting quarterback position, while also signing his contract with the Dodgers.
Many pitchers will not pitch the year they are drafted. Especially those who have suffered multiple injuries and haven’t pitched in months. They will just go to the spring training facility and work out. Meaning Horn could go through his workouts, attempt to play quarterback and make a decision about 2026 in the spring.
The deadline for Horn to sign with the Dodgers is 4 p.m., July 28.
In three seasons with the Tigers, Horn pitched in just seven games. He threw 15 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, eight walks and three hit batters, while striking out 14.
Horn jumped in as a freshman in 2023 and excited scouts during a one-inning debut against No. 16 TCU at the Collegiate Baseball Showdown at Globe Life Field in Dallas.
But after his second appearance, Horn tore his UCL. That ended his freshman baseball season and held him out of both the 2024 football and baseball seasons.
He returned to the mound in late April 2025 and appeared in five games.
His velocity and movement still impressed scouts, leading to his selection. He threw four scoreless games. But his second appearance of the season included all five runs allowed of his college career. He threw a scoreless inning, then didn’t record an out as Alabama got to him in his second inning.
If Horn were to decline the contract offered, he could return to Mizzou to both play football and baseball in the 2025-26 school year and re-enter the MLB draft next year.
