As a Cowboy, McLean was dominant at times on the mound. He also pounded 36 home runs during his three years at OSU.

The Mets allowed McLean to pursue two-way status in the minors during his first two seasons, but switched him over to pitching full-time early in his second season (2024). He has played for both AA Binghampton and AAA Syracuse (IL) this season, sporting a 5-4 record and 2.78 ERA in 13 starts at the AAA level.

McLean is routinely touching 98 miles-per-hour with his fastball in 2025, but it's his 84-87 MPH slider that's considered elite.

Though it never worked out, McLean originally signed with OSU as a two-sport athlete. A quarterback in football, but gave up pursuing football after one season.
