Jaylin Lackey Looking to Take Step Forward in Second Year on West End

Vanderbilt Cornerback Jaylin Lackey returns for his second year on West End, and after significant playing time last season is hoping to take a big step forward with this defense. Playing in all thirteen games last season, Lackey accounted for fourteen tackles and three pass deflections.
With a very talented front seven in Nashville, the secondary is going to be the key for this Commodore defense and Lackey looks to play a large role. He did get injured at the end of this spring and he says he is “trying to get back in shape, get back in the groove of things. Just stacking days, getting more and more consistent”.
When asked about what he learned from last season, Jaylin talked about improving mentally
“I definitely played like a freshman, but I believe I have learned a lot and matured this off season. I’ve made a big step forward in my game, finishing plays and being more focused and detailed is what I needed to learn from last year to this year.”
When asked later about how that is shown he said, “I’m more mature when it comes to meetings, more locked in paying attention.”
When asked about the cornerback room Lackey brought up progress and how so many new faces will end up helping the team. When asked about Marlon Jones he said “When he first got here, he was coming from some personal things. I’m very glad he’s here for his last year.”
