What We Know
Not much at all. If you take what happened in the exhibitions as the gospel, this Vanderbilt team is incredibly athletic with the ability to push the pace of play and knock down outside transition shots. The main weakness I took away was secondary defenders’ rebounding. If the big man isn’t getting the board the guards were struggling at boxing out allowing UVA to eat on the offensive boards.
What to Expect
I’m actually expecting to see a heavy amount of time not focused on Tyler Tanner tonight. He will still get his, but I predict Mark to get the new guys involved early knowing he can rely on Tanner, especially defensively. Frankie Collins is who I’m most intrigued to see tonight as he had very limited minutes against UVA and I believe a lot of success this season will depend on him. The big difference with this team is size, now with seven players at 6’7 or taller. This was a huge mismatch last year when going against bigger teams and the additions of Jalen Washington and Mason Nicholson (high school teammates) in the paint.
Miller’s Prediction: Vandy 93 Lipscomb 68
