Alabama’s coaching staff ventured out to schools across the country during the January contact period.

One of their stops was at Palm Beach Central High School in South Florida. There, Alabama’s Travaris Robinson inquired about multiple recruits, including sophomore Tony Williams.

“He’s a great guy,” Williams told BamaInsider at last weekend’s SUP7R 7-on-7 event. “He spoke some words into me [over the phone] that really hit me in the heart. Not just football, but school and where it can get me. He told me about the Alabama players that went to the league and that it’s a great program.”

Robinson’s stop at Palm Beach Central did not result in an offer for Williams, but others are in pursuit of him. He currently holds offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Pitt, Penn State, and several more colleges.

Williams, who would be recruited by Bama as a defensive back, shared what his reaction would be to an Alabama offer.

“It would mean a lot. It would show I’m not just a regular guy,” Williams said. “Bama would be a very good offer. They’re just a top program in college football. I would love to play in the SEC… I would love to play under a legend like [Nick Saban].”

With the January contact period in the rear-view mirror, the next opportunity for in-person, off-campus evaluations will be from April 15 through May 31.

Robinson told Williams that he will be back to see him during that evaluation period.

“He just wants to watch me during the spring and show him I’m really who I say I am,” Williams said. “He wants me to prove that to him.”

Williams hopes to land an offer from Alabama down the line. As he perfects his craft, the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is modeling his game after a former Bama corner.

Pat [Surtain] is like the best corner in the league right now,” Williams said. “I base how I play off him. If Alabama can teach him to be a very good athlete, then they can definitely do the same for me.”

Williams also informed us that he’s been to the state of Alabama three times, including a trip to Tuscaloosa last summer.

“I’ve been there before,” Williams said. “I’ve seen game days [on TV]. The atmosphere is amazing. It’s great. The place is great. I’ve been to Alabama a lot. I really like the area.”

During his sophomore season, Williams recorded four interceptions (including a pick-six), 19 tackles, one forced fumble, and 11 pass breakups. He also had 130 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
