During Saturday’s spring scrimmage, Alabama starting offensive lineman Jaeden Roberts went down with a lower-body injury that sent him to the medical tent. There wasn’t much more information about the injury at the time, but soon after the scrimmage, the media had a chance to speak to head coach Kalen DeBoer and got an update on Roberts’ status.

“Jaeden’s gonna be fine,” DeBoer told reporters. “He might be down for a little bit here, but he’ll be fine. We’ll do some follow-up evaluations. The early reports, anyways, feels like it will be nothing major.”

Obviously, you never want to see a player go down with an injury, even in the spring. But this sounds like Alabama may have avoided anything serious happening to its star right guard. It should also be noted that Roq Montgomery worked with the second-team offensive line at right guard during the scrimmage, but Olaus Alinen, who worked at left guard with the second unit on Saturday, has the versatility to play on either side.

We’ll have to wait until we learn more about how long Roberts will be sidelined, but don’t be surprised if you see either one of those second-year guys lining up on the first-team offensive line on A-Day, which is set for next Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. CT (4 ET). Stay tuned for more updates on Roberts as BOL learns a more concrete timetable regarding his return.
