Malachi Moore previews Rose Bowl | Alabama Football

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama held its awards banquet two weeks ago at Coleman Coliseum, and there, the Crimson Tide announced a variety of winners and its 2023 team captains.

Quarterback Jalen Milroe, defensive back Malachi Moore and linebacker Dallas Turner were all voted permanent captains by their teammates, and in the spring, will place hands and cleats in cement at Denny Chimes on the university’s campus before the 2024 A-Day Game.

All three Alabama captains spoke to reporters Tuesday and shared what the honor meant.

“I take a lot of pride in that,” Milroe said. “I’m very appreciative to be seen as that. But with anything, I try to play for my brothers in the locker room and I try to play for these coaches and I try to play for the A, and I try to do it as best as I can.

“So it’s a true honor to have all those accolades, but with everything now, I just have to take it another step and really just be the best version of myself every single day coming into the facility.”

In addition to being voted a captain, Milroe also received the Tide’s Most Valuable Player award and Most Inspiring Player, which are both chosen by his peers, too. The third-year quarterback has started 12 games this year, and since returning to the lineup after the South Florida game, Milroe has galvanized Alabama’s offense to lead the team to the playoffs.

The quarterback was joined by a pair of defensive players who have been key contributors on that side of the football this season. Moore is a versatile player in the secondary who has tallied 49 tackles, five tackles for loss, five pass breakups and one interception, while Turner is a force off the edge with a team-high nine sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss in 2023.

“To me, that’s like kind of the biggest honor you can receive here,” Moore said of being named a captain. “Just being looked at by your teammates and your brothers as a person who leads by example and somebody they can look up to that does the right thing, yeah, it’s truly an honor to be voted a captain by my teammates.”

Turner added, “It’s just a blessing to lead the group of guys that we have. It’s just something that’s going to be set in stone forever. We come back and put our hands in cement and stuff like that. It’s a big accomplishment, it’s a blessing and I’m just grateful to lead a group of guys like that.”
