Alabama will welcome back a key member of its defense, as safety Malachi Moore announced he will return to the Crimson Tide for one final year in 2024 rather than entering the draft.

“I’m back,” said Moore in an announcement video.

Moore played in and started 13 games this past season, missing only the Arkansas game due to injury. The senior from Trussville, Ala., posted career-highs in tackles (52) and tackles for loss (5) as he emerged as one of Alabama’s top leaders – he was voted a permanent captain by his teammates after the SEC Championship Game. Moore also registered one interception and five pass breakups in 2023 while playing safety and Star in the Tide secondary.

Moore is a veteran of the Alabama defense. He has played in 52 career games and has logged first-team minutes since his freshman campaign in 2020. Moore is responsible for 144 career tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and 21 pass breakups over the last four years. Potentially welcoming him back gives the Tide more stability in the back end.

BamaOnLine reported last Thursday that Moore was leaning toward returning for another year. The Crimson Tide defense is also expected to welcome back a couple of other starters in inside linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive lineman Tim Smith. On the other side of the football, BOL has learned that backup quarterback Ty Simpson is also likely to return.
