University Lab (Baton Rouge, La.) cornerback Austin Ausberry had high expectations for his official visit to Auburn over the weekend.

And the visit not only met expectations, it exceeded them.

“It was my first time and I loved it,” Ausberry said. “It exceeded my expectations. The campus was extraordinarily nice. Auburn has always been big time, but to be in that historic place, that historic program was eye opening.”

Austin Ausberry impressed with game day, Auburn coaches

Ausberry, his mother and aunt arrived in Auburn Saturday morning. They toured the campus, met with the coaches and then attended Auburn’s game against Georgia, which the Tigers lost 34-10.

The game day environment, however, impressed Ausberry despite the score.

“The atmosphere was great,” Ausberry said. “It was electrifying. It was a great football game. The crowd was crazy. I really enjoyed it. “

Ausberry also enjoyed seeing Bryan Harsin and his staff’s reactions to the loss.

“Coach Harsin and the staff, the way they prepared and the way they went back in the office Sunday and started correcting things and motivating their guys after a loss really stood out to me,” Ausberry said. “It’s always good to see how teams react after a loss. It tells me a lot about the program. I really liked that.”

Ausberry met with Harsin, defensive coordinator Derek Mason, cornerbacks coach Zac Etheridge and former player Trovon Reed.

“They all kept it real with me,” Ausberry said.

Especially Reed.

Reed was a top recruit from Thibodaux, La. in 2010. He signed with Auburn over LSU despite being the No. 1 recruit in Louisiana. Reed spent time in the NFL before taking on Auburn’s coordinator of player relations role earlier this year.

Reed and Ausberry spent a lot of time together during the visit.

“Coach Reed is the realest dude I’ve ever met,” Ausberry said. “That’s my guy, for sure. He kept it real about everything. I just appreciate his time and everything. He’s a great dude.

“He told me about why he chose Auburn. He said he could’ve went to LSU, but Auburn actually felt like home to him. I got that vibe this weekend, too.”

More visits ahead for Ausberry

Ausberry has a top group of schools that includes Auburn, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Michigan and Notre Dame.

He plans to take official visits to Alabama, Michigan and Florida before making a decision. Ausberry has yet to set the Alabama or Michigan visits, but will trek to Florida Dec. 10-12.

Ausberry doesn’t plan to make a commitment until after the season.
