IOL Jacobe Ward has Auburn on top, plans to announce decision soon

Offensive lineman Jacobe Ward has Auburn at the top of his list and could announce a decision soon.

Ward, who attends Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Ga., named the Tigers his leader following an unofficial visit on Saturday. It was his first visit to Auburn.

“It’s a very good place and honestly it fits me a lot,” he said. “For this to be my first time here, I’m really considering being an Auburn Tiger. They are No. 1.

“The relationships I have with all of the coaches, they just keep it real with me, especially Coach (Jake) Thornton. He’s such a good guy. He told me that I could possibly be a day one starter here and that’s something I like to hear.”

Ward watched practice on Saturday. It was another reason he left high on the Tigers.

“The intensity was crazy,” he said. ” hat’s the most intense practice I’ve ever seen out of a college team. I love the way they compete. No. 77 (Jeremiah Wright) is a dog. I love him.”

Ward has connection at Auburn

Ward also has continued to stay in touch with former high school teammate/Auburn quarterback Holden Geriner.

“Holden has always told me that Auburn would be a good fit for me,” he said. “Honestly, it’s going to be cool playing with someone that you played with in high school.”

Ward’s current teammate, Herbert “Third” Scroggins, also was in Auburn on Saturday. The two could end up playing together in college.

“That’s my boy,” Ward said. “He’s like a brother to me. He’s a very good player. I feel like he could come here and be a very good impact player.”

Scroggins has locked in an official visit in September. Ward will return to Auburn in June.

“I’m coming June 7-9,” he said.

As for a decision timeline, Ward said he’d likely be committed by the time his official visit rolls around.

“A decision will be coming soon,” he said. “Maybe some weeks.”

He plans to visit Tennessee and South Carolina in the coming weeks. LSU also is in the mix.

Auburn, however, will be tough to beat, he said.

“Everyone has great character,” he said. “Coach (Hugh) Freeze is always going to keep it 100 with you and that’s something that I love about this team.”
