Auburn has picked up a huge commitment from top transfer wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Lambert-Smith, who is transferring from Penn State with one year of eligibility, announced his decision Wednesday on social media. He chose Auburn over Texas A&M, USC, Colorado, Florida State and Michigan, among others.

“They want me to come and be a guy who can lead the young guys, lead a fairly young (wide receiver) group,” he said. “It’s like a challenge and I love challenges. I heard a lot about (true freshman wideout) Cam Coleman and helping him to reach his potential.

“I’m a vet. I’m a seasoned guy. I feel like I move like a pro and can come in and show the young guys. I like challenges, so I wouldn’t mind taking that on.”

Lambert-Smith’s commitment to Auburn comes less than a week after an official visit. The visit, which took place April 18-20, played a big role in his decision. It allowed him to meet and develop a bond with Auburn coach Hugh Freeze, offensive coordinator Derrick Nix and wide receivers coach Marcus Davis.

“(Davis is) one of the most genuine dudes,” Lambert-Smith said. “We had real convos and I can see through a lot, but I got very great energy from him. Coach Freeze also kept it real with me. He’s real genuine.”

Lambert-Smith was Penn State’s top receiver in 2023. He finished the season with 53 receptions for 673 yards and four touchdowns.

He is the third transfer receiver Auburn has added to the roster in the 2024 class, joining Robert Lewis and Sam Jackson, both of whom enrolled at Auburn in January.

Lambert-Smith’s ‘Personal Life’ tab

Lambert-Smith arrived at Penn State as the nation’s No. 35 ranked receiver recruit and the fourth-ranked prospect coming out of Virginia in the Class of 2020. After appearing in nine games and starting five games as a true freshman, Lambert-Smith finished sixth in the Big Ten in yards per reception (15.3) in 2021 and played in all 13 games in 2022.

He broke out on the national stage against Utah in the Rose Bowl with three catches for 124 yards and an 88-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter. He continued to excel in 2023 and had already put his name in the Penn State record books as the only player in school history with multiple 80-yard touchdown receptions.

“I don’t like to seem cocky or anything,” Lambert-Smith said after racking up 123 yards against West Virginia in 2023. “But the player I know I am and the standard I hold myself to, it was nothing… I’m grateful for all opportunities that come my way, but that’s just the beginning.”

His uncle, Kam Chancellor, played football at Virginia Tech and for seven years with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks.
