It’s gameday between Auburn and Arkansas, which means it’s time for THE BRAIN DRAIN.

This is AuburnSports’ featured, live watch-along show where we view, critique and kvetch over the Tigers’ big game against the hated Razorbacks. This series was important back when Gus Malzahn was on campus and treated this game like the Super Bowl. He won seven of his eight matchups with Arkansas as the Tigers’ head coach.

If he’d been able to put that same enthusiasm toward beating Georgia and Alabama, he might still be here.

Speaking of might still be here, Hugh Freeze still is searching for a proof of concept. The Tigers have recruited quite well during Freeze’s three years on the Plains, but he still is on the hunt for a signature win. A victory today certainly wouldn’t hit that threshold; Arkansas fired its coach on Sept. 28 and, like Auburn, is winless in conference play.

The interim coach is Bob Petrino, who once used a job as Auburn’s offensive coordinator to launch his head-coaching career at Louisville. That was 2003. A lot has happened to Petrino since then, much of it either bad or mediocre, but he watched his offense hang 42 points on Texas A&M last week.

Arkansas still lost the game because it can’t play a lick of defense, but Petrino came out of it looking competent. Does he still have enough creativity and guile to out-fox an talented Auburn defense led by DJ Durkin?

And can Auburn’s offense score more than 20 points in a single conference game?

We’ll find out together today. Join other rational, intelligent Auburn fans here to enjoy the game.

It’s a VIBE!
