Florida State football coach Mike Norvell will make an even $10 million in base salary this season, and his deal will only rise from there following a recent contract extension that was released to Warchant and other media outlets Monday afternoon.

According to the extension, which was signed by Norvell and Florida State officials on Feb. 16, Norvell will see his pay increase by $150,000 every year between now and the end of the eight-year deal. He is due to receive $10.15 million in 2025, and his salary will escalate every year until it reaches $11.05 million in 2031 — the final year of the contract.

Florida State had already overhauled Norvell’s contract following a 10-win season in 2022, bumping him up to an average of over $8 million per year, and the Seminoles did it again following a 13-win season in 2023.

The terms this time were impacted by overtures from the University of Alabama, which appeared poised to tab Norvell as the successor to legendary head coach Nick Saban. According to multiple Florida State sources, the Seminoles were told Alabama was prepared to offer Norvell the job if he was willing to leave FSU.

Shortly after Norvell reached a verbal agreement with FSU on the morning of Jan. 12, Alabama offered the job to former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer.

As part of his new contract, Norvell also agreed to new buyout terms should he leave Florida State before the end of his contract.

If he were to leave FSU in the first year of his new deal, Norvell would owe Florida State $6 million. That number decreases to $4 million the next year, then $3 million, then two years at $2 million, and $1 million after that. If Norvell were to reach the final two years of his contract without receiving an extension, he would not owe Florida State any money for leaving.

Norvell also can make several hundred thousand dollars each year if he meets on- and off-the-field incentives, including:

*$100,000 for reaching the ACC Championship Game or $250,000 for winning it.
*$100,000 for a non-College Football Playoff bowl appearance
*$250,000 for making a CFP first-round game
*$375,000 for making the CFP quarterfinals
*$500,000 for making the CFP semifinals
*$750,000 for making the national championship game
*$950,000 for winning the national title.

Note: Those bonuses are not stacked on top of each other; the most he could make through this structure would be the $950,000.

Florida State also will pay Norvell $50,000 for being named ACC Coach of the Year and $100,000 for being named National Coach of the Year. He also can earn up to $200,000 if the football team meets certain academic standards.
