Linebacker has been a top priority for Florida State in the transfer portal this offseason thanks to the graduations of seniors Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune, and the transfer of top backup DJ Lundy.

On Wednesday, that outlook changed dramatically.

Lundy, who entered the transfer portal in December and later committed to Colorado, took his name back out of the portal on Wednesday. Then he announced on social media that he is returning to Florida State for his senior year.

“FOREVER a FSU Seminole,” Lundy posted on his Twitter/X account. “This is where I’m destined to be. START to FINISH with the teammates and coaches I LOVE.”

He then posted the hashtags #NoleBlooded and #KeepCLIMBing.

Lundy played in all 13 games for the Seminoles in 2023, becoming a key force in the linebacker rotation. Defensive coordinator Adam Fuller even referred to him many times as his third starting linebacker, even though Florida State typically operates with two linebackers in a 4-2-5 system.

On the year, Lundy racked up 54 tackles, six for loss and two sacks. His tackle total ranked third on the team behind Bethune and DeLoach; he also had a crucial interception against Boston College early in the season.

With the 6-foot-1, 244-pound Lundy returning, Florida State still might pursue one linebacker in the transfer portal, but the position group suddenly appears much more stable.

Omar Graham Jr. will be a redshirt sophomore in 2024 after serving as a top backup and recording 23 tackles this past season. Rising sophomores Blake Nichelson and Justin Cryer also showed potential when they received opportunities in 2023.

Florida State coach Mike Norvell also shared a post on Twitter/X that seemed to be a reaction to the Lundy news.
