Florida State expected to hire Kam Martin as running backs coach
Florida State is set to hire Tulsa associate head coach Kam Martin as running backs coach, On3 national college football reporter Pete Nakos reported Wednesday evening. The news of Martin’s hiring comes just two days after David Johnson left the Seminoles for the same role at Arkansas.
Martin previously worked with Florida State offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn at UCF, where he coached star running back RJ Harvey. Martin also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Knights and is credited with landing four-star running back Taevion Swint in the 2025 class.
Martin has had a 1,000-yard running back every year since coaching that position at the FBS level.
The assistant coach also played under Malzhan at Auburn from 2016 to 2019, and he reportedly was also being targeted by Alex Golesh to join Auburn’s staff.
As a running back at Auburn, Martin rushed for 1,564 yards and eight touchdowns on 282 carries over four seasons.

In 2022, he was coaching at Incarnate Word, where that team rushed for 3,011 yards. Martin went from there to Texas State, where he only spent the spring before Malzahn came calling him to join the UCF staff.
Earlier Wednesday, news broke that UCF defensive backs coach Brandon Harris was joining the Florida State staff to replace Patrick Surtain.
