Florida State football finishes 2023 season at No. 6 in AP Poll
Though the Associated Press did not drop Florida State below the all-important top four threshold after the Seminoles’ 16-6 smothering of Louisville in the ACC Championship Game, media members did follow the CFP Committee’s lead in the season’s final rankings.
At 13-1, Florida State finished the year tied at No. 6 in the AP poll, dropping behind No. 4 Georgia and two-loss Alabama. With 1175 points in the poll, FSU ended the year tied for sixth with 12-2 Oregon.
Three of the Seminoles’ in-season (non-bowl game) opponents finished in the final AP Top 25: LSU at No. 12, Louisville at No. 19 and Clemson at No. 20.
The No. 6 ranking is Florida State’s best AP Poll finish since 2014, the only other time the Seminoles made the four-team College Football Playoff field. FSU began the year as the No. 8 team in the AP’s preseason poll and peaked as high as No. 3 nationally.
The Seminoles were the lowest ranked one-loss team at season’s end.
