Thursday evening update:

The two-day saga of where Joshua Farmer will play football this upcoming season has apparently ended.

On Thursday evening, the redshirt sophomore defensive lineman tweeted that he would be staying at Florida State.

It was the culmination of a wild 48 hours.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Port St. Joe native tweeted that he would be entering the transfer portal. His name finally appeared in the portal, and was taken off the Florida State official roster on Seminoles.com, on Thursday morning.

Then, a few hours later, Farmer withdrew his name and said he would be staying at FSU.

Thursday afternoon update:

After two days of speculation and uncertainty, Joshua Farmer is no longer on the Florida State football roster as of Thursday afternoon and has entered the transfer portal.

The redshirt sophomore defensive tackle is now expected to transfer to another college to continue his college career.

Thursday morning update:
Florida State’s biggest transfer portal story to date has yet to reach its conclusion. Defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, who announced his intention to enter the transfer portal on Tuesday, has yet to follow through on that decision as of Thursday morning.

Sources close to the situation have told Warchant.com managing editor Ira Schoffel that Farmer’s declaration did not represent a final decision. In short, there is a significant chance of either outcome: Farmer returns to play for the Seminoles in 2023, or he does indeed depart Tallahassee.

Farmer’s name remains on Florida State’s official roster as of Thursday morning.

The implications of this story could include Farmer’s segment-mate and former high school teammate Darrell Jackson. A standout defensive tackle in spring camp, Jackson arrived at Florida State this semester via the University of Miami and is awaiting an eligibility waiver from the NCAA.

Original Story on Joshua Farmer

Redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, who was expected to be in the two-deep rotation for Florida State this fall after an impressive spring, announced Tuesday he is entering the transfer portal.

Farmer played extensively last season as a backup and was expected to compete for a starting job this fall.

The Seminoles return multi-year starter Fabien Lovett at the position and brought in high-profile transfers Darrell Jackson and Braden Fiske. They also have several returning reserves, including Dennis Briggs Jr. and Malcolm Ray.

But it was Farmer who made perhaps the biggest impression of any defensive tackles this spring.

Earlier in the month, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said the 6-foot-3, 311-pound Port St. Joe native had been “dominant” during spring practice for the Seminoles.

“And he’s just scratching the surface,” Norvell added.

If he didn’t earn a starting spot in the fall, Farmer was still poised to be a big part of the Seminoles’ defensive-tackle rotation. Instead, he’ll be somewhere else in 2023.

Farmer appeared in all 13 games for FSU in 2022, registering 15 tackles, including six for loss and two quarterback sacks.

Florida State earlier this spring lost starting defensive end Derrick McLendon to the transfer portal.
