It was the defense that saved the day.

After giving up 101 points in a crushing loss at Louisville on Saturday night, the Florida State men’s basketball team looked like a completely different group on that side of the floor on Tuesday.

The Seminoles recorded 14 steals, scored 19 points off of turnovers and got the stop they desperately needed in the final seconds to finish off a 63-62 victory at Boston College.

Florida State is now 13-9 on the season and 7-4 in the ACC. It was the fourth conference road win of the season for the Seminoles, who take on red-hot Virginia at the Tucker Center on Saturday night.

FSU never trailed against the Eagles, but could never pull away either. The Seminoles jumped out to a 19-4 lead in the first half before BC worked itself back into the game to trail by six at the half.

The Seminoles then scored the first five points of the second half to again go up by double-digits. And again, the home team answered right back and actually tied the game on multiple occasions.

But Boston College never, not once, had the lead.

Thanks to the Seminoles’ defense down the stretch.

Florida State had a one-point lead and the ball with 11 seconds left when senior Darin Green Jr. was fouled. He missed the front end of the one-and-one, and Boston College called timeout.

The Seminoles had a foul to give, so after the Eagles dribbled the ball past halfcourt, FSU used that foul with 5.8 seconds left.

Boston College called another timeout. Then the Eagles got the ball in the hands of guard Jaeden Zackary on the in-bounds play, and he dribbled to the wing.

That’s when FSU sophomore Cameron Corhen, who had a huge offensive rebound in the final minutes that led to the Seminoles’ last points, came over and double-teamed Zackary. He poked the ball away, and by the time Zackary got the ball back and a final shot, the buzzer had sounded. The shot missed anyway.

And the Seminoles were celebrating another road win.

Against FSU’s aggressive defense, Boston College shot 42 percent from the floor and committed 15 turnovers.

Jamir Watkins, Taylor Bol Bowen and Green each had three steals apiece for the Seminoles. Bol Bowen had nine points off the bench, while Watkins was the only Seminole in double-figures. He had 10 points.

Florida State shot just four free throws in the entire game, and Boston College shot six.

BOX SCORE: FSU 63, Boston College 62
