Florida State QB A.J. Duffy plans to enter transfer portal
With the NCAA transfer portal opening for business on Monday, Florida State already knows of at least one player who plans to seek a new home.
Redshirt freshman quarterback A.J. Duffy, who was one of the top signees in the Seminoles’ 2022 recruiting class, confirmed to ESPN on Sunday night that he plans to enter the portal.
Duffy, a former four-star recruit out of California, redshirted during his first season in Tallahassee and then appeared to get passed over this fall by 2023 signee Brock Glenn.
When starting quarterback Jordan Travis and top backup Tate Rodemaker were injured late this season, FSU coach Mike Norvell went straight to the true freshman Glenn instead of giving Duffy an opportunity.
Duffy attempted seven passes in his Florida State career and completed two for 26 yards with one touchdown.
If Duffy follows through and enters the portal, the Seminoles could have just two available scholarship quarterbacks — Rodemaker and Glenn — for the Orange Bowl game against Georgia on Dec. 30. Walk-on Dylan McNamara also dressed out for the ACC Championship Game against Louisville.
