After starring for two seasons with the Florida State football team, running back Trey Benson announced on Sunday he’s heading to the NFL.

The All-ACC honoree tweeted out his decision and thanked his teammates, coaches and the Florida State fans for all the support over the last two seasons. He also said he would not be playing in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 30.

During his two seasons at Florida State, Benson went from a virtual unknown in college football to one of the best running backs in the country.

The Mississippi native, who began his college career at Oregon but was never able to get on track there because of a devastating knee injury, finished his two seasons at Florida State with 2,266 total yards from scrimmage and 25 total touchdowns.

He also had a 99-yard kickoff return for a score in 2022.

Prior to his arrival in Tallahassee, Benson amassed just 22 total yards during his two seasons at Oregon.

This season, Benson rushed for 905 yards and 14 touchdowns on 156 carries. He also had an 80-yard touchdown against Wake Forest on a screen pass.

Last season, when he burst onto the college scene, Benson had 990 yards and nine touchdowns in helping lead the Seminoles to their first 10-win season in six years.

In 2023, Benson helped lead the Seminoles to an undefeated campaign and their first ACC Championship in nine years. He also played exceptionally well against Florida State’s in-state rivals.

In four total games against Miami and Florida, Benson amassed 414 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns — the final two coming in the second half of the Seminoles’ comeback win over the Gators in The Swamp in late November.

They will be the last points Benson scores as a Seminole.

He, wide receiver Johnny Wilson and defensive tackle Fabien Lovett are the three FSU starters so far who have declared for the draft and opted out of playing in the Orange Bowl against Georgia.
