The reshaping of the Florida State football team’s roster continued Thursday as reserve wide receiver Joshua Burrell announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Burrell, a redshirt sophomore from South Carolina, has played receiver and running back during his three years with the Seminoles.

He appeared in two games in 2021, nine in 2022 and seven games this past season. The 6-foot-2, 216-pounder came to Florida State as a three-star prospect in the Class of 2021; he was rated by several recruiting services as one of the top five prospects in South Carolina.

Burrell gained popularity with Florida State fans during the recruiting process by helping to recruit other players, but he had a difficult time breaking into the Seminoles’ rotation at receiver or running back.

He announced on social media that he plans to graduate from FSU in May and transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

Burrell is the 21st Seminole to enter the transfer portal this cycle.

In his farewell message to the Florida State community on social media, Burrell called his time in Tallahassee, “a blessing.”
