Florida State head coach Mike Norvell was curious to see how focused his No. 14-ranked Seminoles would be for Saturday’s game against East Texas A&M after last week’s emotional win over Alabama.

He had to be thrilled with the answer. The visiting Lions not so much.

Scoring on all seven of its first-half possessions — and the first 10 for the game — Florida State pummeled its out-manned opponent, 77-3, before a crowd of 65,430 inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

The Seminoles opened the game with a 12-play, 78-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard touchdown plunge by running back Gavin Sawchuk, and that was about the most difficulty Florida State’s offense had all day.

FSU’s next drive took just one play — an 82-yard touchdown strike from Tommy Castellanos to Duce Robinson — and the next one covered 53 yards in four plays. That one ended with a 42-yard TD pass from Castellanos to Robinson.

And the Seminoles were off to the races.

By halftime, Florida State led 49-0, and the Seminoles had out-gained ETAMU by a margin of 416-70. The Seminoles finished the day with 729 yard of total offense.

The game was so lopsided that Castellanos exited the game late in the second quarter, but backup quarterbacks Kevin Sperry and Brock Glenn picked up right where he left off.

Castellanos finished the game with 237 yards through the air on 8-of-11 passing.

Sperry, a true freshman, was the first one off the bench, and he completed four of five passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns — a 3-yarder to freshman receiver Jayvan Boggs and a 43-yarder to fellow freshman Ousmane Kromah.

Glenn completed all three of his passes for 51 yards and one score, a 35-yarder to tight end Amaree Williams.

Robinson, a junior Southern Cal transfer, had the biggest day of Florida State’s skill players, catching five passes for 173 yards and the two TDs. He established a new FSU school record with 160 receiving yards in the first quarter.

Sawchuk only carried the ball eight times for 35 yards, but he ran for two touchdowns to go with his one receiving score. Kromah finished with 90 yards of offense — 37 rushing and 53 receiving — and sophomore running back Samuel Singleton ran for 82 yards and one touchdown on four carries in mop-up duty.

Redshirt freshman receiver Micahi Danzy also scored on a 53-yard end-around.

Florida State’s defense, meanwhile, smothered everything the Lions tried to do on offense. They didn’t score their first points until they kicked a field goal with 9:32 remaining and Florida State leading 70-0.

The day wasn’t completely perfect for the ‘Noles. Star wide receiver Squirrel White left the game with a wrist or forearm injury after getting tackled awkwardly on a punt return. He stood on the sideline for the second half with his left wrist in a heavy brace.

Safety Shyheim Brown and defensive end James Williams also left the game in the first half with apparent injuries.

Florida State (2-0) will have a bye week next weekend before returning home to face Kent State on Sept. 20.
