State of Florida CFO requests NCAA waiver documents for UNC WR Tez Walker, FSU DT Darrell Jackson
In the wake of the NCAA’s change in course regarding the eglibility of UNC wide receiver Tez Walker, state of Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis seeks clarity. In a public letter released on social media in addition to a state of Florida government website, Patronis submitted a “formal public records request” to the NCAA.
The goal: To review and compare Walker’s case to that of FSU defensive tackle Darrell Jackson.
“The NCAA explained that Mr. Walker’s waiver denial was overturned because of ‘new information,'” Patronis wrote. “While I’m happy that Mr. Walker is now playing college football, it begs the question, what was this new information?
“Why is Mr. Walker now eligible to play when other student-athletes, including Florida State Defensive Tackle Darrell Jackson, are not?”
The letter was released six days after FSU head coach Mike Norvell was most recently asked about Jackson’s situation. Norvell said that comparing Walker’s waiver request to Jackson’s “is a very interesting dynamic.”
“I don’t understand a lot of things that occur,” Norvell continued. “And we definitely ask the questions — whether I always like the response — but no, still a continued work of understanding.”
Regardless of any immediate change of course from the NCAA, Norvell revealed that Jackson would be eligible for the Seminoles’ postseason (bowl/playoff) games.
