Florida State officially announced on Thursday evening the addition of former Georgia defensive end Marvin Jones Jr. to the Seminoles’ 2024 recruiting class. Jones originally announced his plans to become a Seminole on Monday.

Here is a quote from Florida State head coach Mike Norvell, which was released by FSU on Thursday:

“Marvin is a dynamic athlete with proven production at the collegiate level,” Norvell said. “He brings experience and a tremendous amount of play-making ability to our program, and he is just scratching the surface of where he can go. I’m looking forward to seeing his continued development in all areas within our program as he forges his own legacy here at Florida State. I’m so excited about not only the player but also the person that is joining the Nole Family.”

Earlier Report: Florida State legacy joins Seminoles

His dad is one of the best in school history. Now, Marvin Jones Jr. will get a chance to make his own mark and leave his own legacy at Florida State.

The talented defensive end, who played the last two years at the University of Georgia, announced on Monday that he would be transferring to Florida State.

He posted a photo of himself wearing a Florida State uniform and two simple words: “I’m home.”

Jones was a sophomore this past season for the Bulldogs and has two full years of eligibility remaining.

Jones, who is listed at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, was a backup in 2023 but still got significant playing time for the UGA defense, especially later in the season. He finished the year with 12 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble. The former five-star high school prospect started against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.

As a freshman in 2022, Jones had one sack against Georgia Tech.

In high school, he was coached by current Florida State defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain at American Heritage and helped lead the team to the state championship in 2020.

In a recruiting battle that came down to the final days, Jones chose Georgia over his dad’s alma mater. Now he’s decided to follow in Marvin Sr.’s footsteps and head to Tallahassee.

And make no mistake, they are very big footsteps.

Marvin Jones Sr. was a three-time All-America linebacker for the Seminoles from 1990 to 1992 and is one of the most decorated players in the history of the program. Not only did he win the Butkus Award and the Lombardi Award in 1992, but he also finished fourth in the Heisman voting — one of the highest finishes ever for a defensive player.

He was the fourth overall pick of the New York Jets in the 1993 NFL Draft and was recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. His No. 55 jersey is retired at Florida State.
