Top 50 prospect Joseph Jonah-Ajonye in with Georgia

It’s a big day for the Georgia Bulldogs and the Class of 2024, as defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye has announced his commitment on Thursday evening.
The nation’s No. 47 overall prospect, Jonah-Ajonye, who ticks the tape at 6-foot-4.5, 270 pounds, hails from Conroe, Texas’ Oak Ridge High School.
“I’m going to Georgia,” Jonah-Ajonye told DawgsHQ in a telephone interview. “On my first visit to Georgia, I was like, yeah, this might be the place. All those good moments that I had, the talk with Coach [Kirby] Smart, learning from Coach [Tray] Scott, getting to chill with the recruits. Meeting Dylan [Raiola] and building a bond with him, that was big for me.”
Originally hailing from Nigeria, Jonah-Ajonye didn’t pick up football until his freshman year of high school, but he’s since emerged as one of the nation’s best.
He’s also been open in his feelings toward the Georgia Bulldogs since receiving an offer in April of this year.

“That phone call made me really happy because Georgia is my dream school. I was really happy to talk to Coach [Tray] Scott about that,” Jonah-Ajonye told SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuiston. “We were on the phone for like 40 minutes, and then, he offered me. I didn’t even know I was going to get the offer. I thought it was just an interest. I was really happy. That made my entire month. That made my entire month.”
Jonah-Ajonye followed up the offer with a quick visit for Georgia’s annual recruiting scavenger hunt, and he walked away equally impressed.
“…I learned a lot. So me and Coach (Tray) Scott, we watched film and he taught me a lot about my position that I didn’t even know in just a couple of minutes. I felt like a better football player than I was already,” he told DawgsHQ’s Jake Rowe following the trip. “So just imagine what three or four years would be if I went to Georgia. So that’s why I really loved it.”
Now, he’s aboard for the 2024 cycle, giving Georgia the nation’s No. 8 ranked defensive lineman for the class.
Joseph Jonah-Ajonye is also the No. 11 prospect in Texas for 2024 per the On3 Industry Ranking.
Scouting Report on Joseph Jonah-Ajonye
“Athletic, versatile defensive lineman with one of the higher developmental upsides at the position in the 2024 cycle. Measured at around 6-foot-3.5, 255 pounds prior to his senior season. Has a big frame and plus length with a 10.5-inch hand and wing-span over 6-foot-10. An easy, natural athlete who moves like a much smaller player. Lines up at defensive end and inside on Friday nights. Flashes outstanding speed in pursuit, running down plays from the backside. Plays to the whistle and makes second effort plays. Shows quick hands at the point of attack. Is a mismatch due to his quickness and overall athleticism when he slides inside. Capable of overpowering offensive tackles as a edge setter against the run. Will need to continue honing his skill and growing as a player. Could stand to improve his pass rush. Born in Nigeria and did not start playing football until his freshman year of high school. Also extraordinarily young for the cycle, with a November birthday. Is the age of a 2025 prospect. Has notable upside based on his lower level of development and the room for growth relative to most other top 2024 prospects.” – Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
