Kansas State hosted three official visitors for the Tulane contest this past weekend. They were all defensive backs already committed to the Wildcats in Kameron Sallis, RJ Lester and Kanijal Thomas.

Sallis was the first of the three to commit to K-State and did so on June 21 after an unofficial visit. His official visit went very well.

“[The visit] was everything I was looking for,” Sallis said. “It was great game play, atmosphere and even better hospitality.”

The host of his official visit was true freshman safety Joe Hall III.

“It was cool having him as my host,” Sallis commented. “We had fun for sure.”

It was his first time being around other commits for an extended period of time since giving Kansas State his verbal pledge. And the connection that he formed with Lester and Thomas was a critical part of his stay in Manhattan.

That stood out to the Texas native.

“My favorite part was by far just being around the team and the other commits,” Sallis divulged. “It was funny [having Thomas and Lester visit too]. They’re both just funny people but you can tell that they are all in.”

“We’re all close,” he added. “Those are my brothers. I’m close with Collin [Dunn] but over the weekend I’ve gotten real close with RJ and Kanijal.”

Sallis laid out the agenda for the official visit and everything that they experienced.

“Obviously we watched the game,” he pointed out. “But we also viewed the campus and did lots of things with the team. There was lots of eating going on.”

The senior safety came away impressed with the K-State safeties, despite the loss. Kansas State was upset by Tulane at home, but the defense rose to the occasion yet again in front of three commits that will play on that side of the ball.

“What stood out the most was how many plays that were made by them and how they kept fighting till the final whistle,” Sallis noted.

K-State is recruiting Sallis to play free safety. Overall, he enjoys the 3-3-5 scheme the Wildcats have run the last two seasons.

“One thing I like is that there are three safety positions,” he mentioned. “And it just makes sense when the coaches were explaining the reasoning behind the 3-3-5 look.”

Though it wasn’t a great day for Kansas State on the field, his love and bond with the K-State coaches and the school has not wavered.

“Our relationship has definitely gotten stronger,” Sallis answered. “I talk to them almost everyday. I also get letters every week from the entire coaching staff. The little things like the letters really means a lot. I love Kansas State to the fullest.”

Since making his college decision, he has heard from UTSA and Ohio State but he was adamant that he won’t visit any other schools and is locked in with K-State.
