Kansas State remains very active with an offered 2024 quarterback target

The quarterback hunt for the 2023 class was not resolved until this past Summer when Avery Johnson picked Kansas State over Oregon and Washington. Others were in the picture prior to that final stage, such as Arkansas, Ole Miss and Auburn.

Others have approached the Maize High signal-caller since then as well, including Notre Dame, Florida State and the Rebels once again. The Seminoles even sent an assistant coach to his second game of the season despite his insistence that he would remain committed to the Wildcats.

It’ll be interesting to see what the 2024 cycle brings, but K-State has already been readily connected to two quarterbacks. One visited last Spring, and that was Texas native Mabrey Mettauer. LSU, Ole Miss, Florida and Louisville are linked to the four-star recruit as well.

Another has heard quite a bit from the Wildcats on a consistent basis, and that is Blake Barnett of Colorado. Not to be confused with the one that was once committed to play for USC a handful of years ago but ultimately signed with Alabama and now plays for USF.

The 2024 Kansas State target hasn’t yet made a trip to Manhattan, but it is in the works.

“No, not yet,” Barnett confirmed. “We might do a game-day visit later in the season or I will just wait and take my official visit there next Summer.”

Make no mistake about it, he is at or near the top of the quarterback board for the Wildcats. Offensive coordinator Collin Klein has him in his crosshairs.

“They are the most active school recruiting me right now,” Barnett revealed. “They are showing the most interest. It has been more of Coach Klein than anyone.”

“They want me to come out for a visit,” he added. “They want to get to know me better. They have told me to keep thinking purple.”

Perhaps the strongest ammunition for K-State in their pursuit of Barnett is not that they are recruiting him harder than anyone else. Actually, it’s that his former high school teammate John Pastore is a true freshman offensive lineman in Manhattan.

“It plays a huge role because I have someone that I can talk to about any questions I have or things about the program from a player perspective,” Barnett explained. “And it’s also great to see him doing well. I’m super excited for John and what he can do. He’s grown a lot from the last time I saw him, for sure.”
