RECRUITING SUMMARY

The recruitment of Kameron Sallis to Kansas State was a quick one. K-State offered the senior on June 4 and he committed on June 21 after an unofficial visit to Manhattan on June 18. So, it took just two weeks for him to realize he wanted to be a Wildcat.

A major tip of the hat goes to K-State assistant Van Malone for the evaluation of Sallis and getting in on him early enough to beat others to the punch. It was his relationship with the Kansas State coach that sealed the deal.

The Texas native also took his official visit to Manhattan on September 17 for the Tulane game and enjoyed his time and has remained locked in with K-State despite other Power Five suitors trying to flip him.

While the identity of those programs who are still pursuing him is unknown, Sallis confirmed to KSO that many continue to reach out to gauge the temperature of his commitment to Kansas State and whether or not he would consider other options.

His answer has been to remain firm with his pledge to Chris Klieman and company. He even took to Twitter to reaffirm his commitment to K-State and has consistently been one of the leaders of the class for Kansas State.

Word on the street is that he received some late attention from all three of TCU, Baylor and Arkansas.

EVALUATION

First off, like all of the K-State commitments in the secondary, Sallis is very, very long. He has a really good frame to add weight on and should be able to tack it on early. That is because he will be enrolled at Kansas State in January.

He’s a very instinctive football player and uses that to always be around the ball. Despite only playing in five games due to injury, he had 38 tackles, two interceptions and three pass deflections.

Physicality is another thing that pops when watching the senior’s highlight tape. He is not afraid to stick his face in and will hit you hard. A lot of that comes because of his speed, and that metric is what attracted K-State in the first place.

A player comp for me would be Russ Yeast.

As a KSO subscriber, Kansas State fans can find out more about the rest of the recruiting targets still being chased, which underclassmen players could return for the Wildcats and how many of the seniors will be back on the roster for an extra season in Manhattan.

Remember, we also have plenty of bowl coverage on the way for Big 12 Champion K-State as well in the lead-up to the Sugar Bowl matchup with Alabama, plus Jerome Tang and company are cooking and have shot out to an 10-1 record.

If you’re not subscribed, remember that a subscription to K-StateOnline is still just $10 until football season.
