By beating Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats escaped playing a Thursday game at next week’s SEC Tournament by earning one of the four coveted double-byes into Friday’s quarterfinals. The additional rest will be critical to the young team and their excited and eager fan base, the Big Blue Nation. One less game is better for all parties.

Then, shortly after Kentucky left Knoxville with a W, Auburn helped out the Wildcats by winning at Ole Miss, which secured the No. 2 overall seed for the Wildcats in the SEC Tournament field. Kentucky’s No. 2 seed was decided by a four-way tiebreaker among the four second-place teams in the conference: Kentucky (13-5), Alabama (13-5), Auburn (13-5), and South Carolina (13-5). Kentucky had the better record among the four teams in a round-robin (2-1), which was the tiebreaker to clinch the second spot behind first-place Tennessee in the conference tournament seeding.

2024 SEC Tournament Bracket

As the No. 2 seed, Kentucky will play the first game of the second Friday session, meeting the winner of No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 10 Ole Miss in the quarterfinals. That game will begin at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. local time in Nashville. With a win, Kentucky would likely meet No. 6 Florida or No. 3 Alabama in the semifinal before a championship game against a probable opponent in No. 1 Tennessee or No. 4 Auburn.
