Clemson, Oregon, & Kentucky Battle for the #1 Player in Kentucky | Martels Carter Talks Recruitment

Paducah (Ky.) Tilghman Martels Carter is one of Kentucky’s top defensive targets in the 2025 high school recruiting cycle. The top-200 prospect has visited the Wildcats multiple times in the last few months. Now the four-star prospect is ready to make a decision.

Martels Carter recently caught up with Auburn Live‘s Jeremy Lee and confirmed that he will be making his college decision on May 25. The No. 1 player in Kentucky will choose from finalists Auburn, Colorado, Kentucky, and Louisville.

“I’m committing on that day,” Carter said. “I’m going to have a little family get-together with whoever wants to come and then announce my commitment.”

“Right now anybody can sneak in, but it’s really between Auburn, UK, Louisville and Colorado.”

Vince Marrow has been running lead for Kentucky in this recruitment and has established a strong relationship with Martels Carter. The Wildcats are currently trending in this recruiting battle and are currently the favorites to land a commitment from Carter.

Even when that commitment comes, this recruitment will not be over. Martels Carter still plans to take some visits during the recruiting process. The defensive back currently only has an official locked in with Michigan.

Kentucky currently has five commitments in the class of 2025 after losing high three-star tailback Isaiah West on Monday. The Wildcats are still looking for their first defensive commitment. Martels Carter could become that and give the program a pair of top-200 prospects heading into June.
