Bracketology posts typically get scoffed at as Joe Lunardi pumps out content year round. It’s no longer a laughing matter. Two months from today we will be preparing for day two of the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Every game matters for Kentucky and the latest results forecast good news for the Wildcats in March.

Before diving into Lunardi’s latest projections, a few things that Kentucky is playing for ahead of Selection Sunday.

  • Indianapolis is hosting first round games. Outside of a potential regional destination in Chicago, it’s the only easy drive for the BBN.
  • The Final Four is New Orleans ten years after Kentucky cut down the nets in the Big Easy. Coincidence? Let’s hope not.

After smashing the Tennessee Volunteers into a million pieces, Kentucky jumped up to a 3-seed in ESPN’s bracket, opening the action in Pittsburgh with Purdue looming in the Sweet 16. Looking at the entire landscape, the Bracket Matrix currently has Kentucky on the 4-seed line.

Kentucky can continue to climb through the ranks by adding quality wins. The Wildcats are entering the most difficult stretch of this season’s schedule. The great challenge is an exceptional opportunity.

For now, this bracketology remains a projection. In mid-February the NCAA will release the top 16 seeds, previewing what’s to come on Selection Sunday. Mark your calendars for UK’s return to the field on March 13.
