John Calipari at SEC Media Day

Drake is a friend of the program. The 36-year-old music superstar is friends with Kentucky head coach John Calipari and has done many things over the year to show his support for the Wildcats. From showing up and participating in Big Blue Madness a decade ago, to coming to random games throughout the years, the megastar has not been afraid to show his affinity for Kentucky.

The celebrity rides with Big Blue Nation.

On Thursday, Drake provided another gift to the men’s basketball program. Every Kentucky player received a fresh pair of Nike shoes from the hip hop artist. Don’t believe us? Come see for yourself.

“My guy got you guys each a pair,” Calipari told his team. “Drake sent these to you.”

Latest Kentucky developments with Drake

The Wildcats are not just doing shoes with their famous super fan. There seems to be a developing partnership between two high-level brands. Back in September, Kentucky became one of five institutions to be selected for Drake’s limited edition apparel release.

Alabama, Memphis, North Carolina, and Texas joined Kentucky in this partnership. Each school’s collection included a letterman jacket, hoodie, shorts, and a hat. All featured the university and OVO logos.

During an off-day at the 2023 GLOBL JAM in Toronto, John Calipari followed through with a promise to take his latest Kentucky squad to Drake’s house. Nicknamed The Embassy, the $100 million Toronto mansion hosted the entire team and guests for a pool party and afternoon cookout. The team also got some shots up in Drake’s indoor gym.

The friendship seems genuine between the Kentucky head men’s basketball coach and Drake. Could we see the music icon at a Cats game this season? The offseason tells us that the superstar is heavily involved with program heading into a very important 2023-24 season.
