Kentucky obliterates Monmouth 104-46 behind career outing from Lexi Blue

Monmouth was a top 50 defense in the country last season, and after Kentucky experienced some shooting woes against Morehead State, it was going to be interesting to see how the Cats would — or wouldn’t — bounce back on Thursday. Kentucky got big, 15/15 games from Jordan Obi and Clara Strack against Morehead State, but could the team rally together for a solid all-around win against the Hawks?
Kentucky would prevail against Monmouth, winning the game 104-46 as Kenny Brooks‘ squad moved to 2-0 on the young season.
Unfortunately, Kentucky did start the game 0-5 from three-point range — showing signs of another bad night shooting the ball, but on a positive note, Asia Boone was 2-2 from beyond the arc in the first quarter. The former Liberty sharpshooter didn’t come into Thursday night ready for another cold outing.
On the defensive end of the floor, the Cats were absolutely dominant, holding Monmouth to just 1-13 (8%) from the field as they entered the second period of play with a 24-4 lead.
Three-point shooting wasn’t much of a problem once Boone got hot, and no one saw that more than Lexi Blue. In the first half alone she had her best game as a Wildcat, shooting a perfect 4-4 from three, recording 12 points. At the break, it was 55-18 Kentucky — exactly the kind of half they needed after the Morehead State game.

Blue’s hot shooting would continue though the rest of the game as she ended the third quarter with he sixth three-point shot — and sixth three-point make — of the night to make it 84-34.
She’s in a position in the rotation where she truly has to scratch and claw for every single minute she gets, and she proved her value against Monmouth. Oh, and the icing on the cake? Gabby Brooks got in on the action.
On Sunday, Kentucky will make the trek to New York to take on the Buffalo Bulls in their first road game of the season. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
