We head west for the second consecutive Friday for the Kroger KSR Game of the Week. Friday’s matchup features Taylor County at Glasgow. Both are legitimate state championship contenders. KSR’s latest high school football poll has Glasgow ranked No. 2 while Taylor County comes in at No. 5 in 3A. Bragging rights are on the line as well as playoff ramifications. The Cardinals and Scotties boast powerful run games and stingy defenses.

Glasgow is 6-1 with its lone loss coming to undefeated Woodford County in week one. The Scotties are averaging 38 points per game. They currently rank fifth in 3A with 1,785 yards on the ground. Glasgow is paced by Hunter Scott’s 473 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. He also leads Glasgow with 15 receptions for 222 yards and 4 touchdown catches. Keiran Stockton has accumulated 422 yards and 8 touchdowns on the ground.

The Scotties have four defensive players with 20 or more solo tackles. Corbin Wells is the team’s top tackler with 28. John Myers is second with 26 followed by Clint Mauldin and Tristan Franklin’s 23 and 20, respectively. The Scotties are allowing just 77 pass yards per contest.

Taylor County is also 6-1. Its only loss of the season came against undefeated Green County 36-19. Six-five, 295-pound sophomore offensive lineman Hayes Johnson anchors the Cardinals up front. He sports a Kentucky offer.

The Cardinals average 37.7 points per game and have rushed for nearly 2,000 yards which ranks fourth in 3A. Peyton Smith’s 1,058 run yards lead the team and is tops in 3A. He is also 3A’s leading scorer with 15 touchdowns. Kaden Smith has recorded 76 carries for 649 yards and 11 scores. His 11 touchdowns rank third in 3A. Kaden Smith is also the team’s top pass catcher after posting 3 catches for 139 yards and a touchdown.

Keeshon Smith is Taylor County’s top tackler with 72 stops on the season. Gabe Wooden is second with 60 and also has two quarterback sacks. All-purpose player Kaden Smith has registered two pass interceptions. The Cardinals are giving up a lowly 57 yards through the air.

Should be a good one in Glasgow.
