Good morning and Happy Labor Day, Kentucky Sports Radio readers. It’s that time of the year when you can kick back, fire up the grill, and enjoy the day because of your hard work to earn this three-day weekend. Whether in an office, on a job site, working from home, or anywhere in between, you and the rest of the workforce make the world turn, so have the best Labor Day Monday if you’re one of the lucky ones to have it off.

Here at KSR, we are working through Labor Day because football time in the Bluegrass doesn’t stop, and we have a full slate ahead.

Mondays with Mark

Noon Press Conference

At 12 o’clock today, Mark Stoops will sit down for a lengthy chat about his football team in his second Monday afternoon press conference of the season. Stoops will look back at Saturday’s home-opening win over Ball State and address the week ahead as the Wildcats prepare for the upcoming game versus Eastern Kentucky.

When the press conference concludes, Kentucky Sports Radio will share all of Stoops’ Labor Day comments. Big Blue Nation hopes those comments include an update on Kenneth Horsey–ideally, a positive one.

Monday Call-In Show

Later tonight, Stoops will join Tom Leach for Stoops’ weekly call-in radio show out of Lexington. The Mark Stoops Show can be heard from 6-7 p.m. on WLAP 630 or on the UK Sports Network’s affiliates throughout the state.

Stoops and Leach had this funny moment during Saturday’s postgame interview:

KSR Football Podcast is live tonight

After you listen to Stoops’ radio show, eat dinner and then get over to KSR’s YouTube for an 8 p.m. broadcast of a new KSR Football Podcast. The show will go live with Kentucky Football talk from Nick Roush, Drew Franklin, Adam Luckett, and Freddie Maggard.

College Football continues tonight

It’s on to Week 2 for the Wildcats, but Week 1 isn’t completely over just yet. Tonight, ninth-ranked Clemson travels to Duke for a college edition of Monday Night Football on ESPN. That game airs at 8 p.m. with Dave Pasch, Dusty Dvoracek, and Tom Luginbill on the call.

Clemson is a 13-point favorite in the game on our fifth straight day of football.

Zvonimir Ivisic Watch

Things are mostly quiet around Kentucky Basketball, but there is one roster spot still getting ironed out before the team begins practices next month. Zvonimir Ivisic‘s status remains up in the air as the big Croatian tries to make his way to the Bluegrass and into the University of Kentucky’s student body. That process is not yet complete and needs to get settled ASAP if the last addition to John Calipari’s roster intends to play basketball during the fall semester.

Wenyen Gabriel, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are going to Paris

While Kentucky hopes to add one international player to its current roster, two former Wildcats from other countries punched their tickets to the 2024 Summer Olympic Games on Sunday.

First, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Team Canada upset Spain in the FIBA World Cup. The 88-85 victory eliminated the reigning FIBA World Cup champs from the tournament and, in turn, earned Canada a spot in next summer’s Olympics. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 in the win.

Then, Wenyen Gabriel helped South Sudan clinch its first-ever Olympic berth by beating Angola in the FIBA World Cup. Gabriel had 15 and 10 with six blocks in the historic win for his country.

Congratulations to the former Kentucky teammates.

Watch Steven Peake’s vlog of his first year with KSR

Yesterday, Steven Peake shared a vlog recapping his first year as KSR’s videographer. Follow along if you can keep up with his journey which includes stops in London, Toronto, New York, Buc-ee’s, and more. We’re lucky to have Steven, but he might need a day or two off.

Stick with us throughout the rest of today while you enjoy your Labor Day off. We’ll be here all day as the Wildcats get set to host the Colonels on Saturday.

Go Cats.
