The recruitment of Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen is finally starting to wind down. Kentucky should know where the offensive tackle will be playing next year very soon.

A former low three-star recruit out of South Florida, Steen spent four seasons on the West End where he turned into a three-year SEC starter playing both tackle spots for the Commodores. After the season, Steen decided to enter the transfer portal to find another school to spend his super senior season with.

A busy recruitment has followed.

Through the recruiting process, Steen also visited both Kentucky and LSU. NC State, Penn State, and Virginia are also under consideration. New UVA head coach Tony Elliott just signed Steen’s younger brother — Blake Steen — in the class of 2022. Over the weekend, Steen took his final official visit to Alabama to check out Nick Saban’s program where former Kentucky assistant Eric Wolford is now coaching the offensive line.

Joseph Hastings of BCS Alabama spoke with Tyler Steen’s father, Daris, over the weekend and confirmed that all visits are over, and now it’s decision time for the coveted offensive line transfer.

Despite recruiting the position tremendously well with three five-star offensive tackles — Tyler Booker, Tommy Brockermeyer, JC Latham — added to the roster in the last two recruiting classes, Alabama is still searching for offensive line help. Wolford has targeted Steen as a major player of need for the Tide, and the SEC West power has given their recruiting pitch.

Kentucky has a ton to sell with early playing time available for Tyler Steen, but so do Alabama and LSU. A major SEC recruiting battle is brewing for the intraconference transfer. We should know the answer soon.

The final decision will either answer a major concern for the Kentucky offense or send the coaching staff deeper into the transfer portal as the Wildcats look for help at offensive tackle.

Roster building never stops.
