There is plenty of hype surrounding the overall basketball talent that is exuding from the class of 2025, even including a Bluegrass native who might be one of the top prospects among them all.

On Monday, our good friends over at On3 unveiled the initial basketball player rankings for the current group of high school sophomores. For those who closely follow the hoops recruiting world, the two names at the top won’t surprise you. 6-foot-7 SF Cooper Flagg and 6-foot-8 PF Cameron Boozer hold down the top two spots, respectively.

6-foot-5 SG Darryn Peterson, who became the first sophomore to ever receive a Kentucky scholarship offer from head coach John Calipari and is arguably the staff’s primary target, debuts at No. 4 overall with four-star status (only the top three players were tabbed as five-stars). Locally, 6-foot-3 PG Jasper Johnson out of Woodford County (KY) High School debuts as a four-star and the No. 20 overall player in 2025.

Another player to keep an eye on who made the initial Top 50 is No. 24 overall Alier Maluk, a lengthy 6-foot-10 forward who first heard from Kentucky last summer heading into his freshman season.
