LSU flipped Acadiana (La.) defensive lineman Dominick McKinley from Texas A&M to kick off 2024 with a massive recruiting win. At the Under Armour game in Orlando, the five-star prospect was named a top performer by On3.

“Dominick McKinley looked like the top defensive lineman in Orlando,” the On3 recruiting staff wrote. “The new LSU commit had some ‘wow’ moments over the course of the week, absolutely detonating on interior offensive linemen on more than occasion. The 6-foot-5, 290 pounder plays with outstanding leverage. He fires off the ball and stays low, getting underneath the pads of opposing offensive linemen and uprooting them in the process.

“The combination of size, length, flexibility and functional movement skills are highly projectable. When McKinley was at his best over the week, he was essentially unblockable. The Lafayette (La.) Acadiana product ranks as the No. 37 overall prospect in the On300 rankings.”

On3 national director of scouting and rankings Charles Power loves what the Louisiana prospect brings to the table.

“Dominick McKinley has a lot of translatable physical tools that you look forward to,” Power said earlier this week. “Starting off, there’s simply not a lot of prospects out there that have his combination of size, length, athleticism, and movement skills. McKinley checks in at around 6-foot-5, 280 pounds. Those are the official measurements we have for him, but he looks to be a little heavier than 280 after seeing him this week at the Under Armour All-American Bowl. He has plus length with 34-plus-inch arms.”

McKinley is the No. 1 prospect in Louisiana, the No. 5 defensive lineman in America and the No. 27 overall prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2024 cycle. He was a key recruiting win for the Tigers down the stretch.

“A couple of weeks ago, I made my decision, I told my parents and my people,” McKinley said after Monday’s Under Armour All-America practice in Orlando. “I’ll be right there by my family, it’s 45 minutes away and easy to go back and forth, and there’s a lot of opportunities for in-state kids going to LSU.”
