BREAKING: LSU lands a commitment from DL Darryus McKinley

Louisiana’s Darryus McKinley entered the day with a double-digit offer list trimmed down to four SEC teams, but LSU was the lone team left standing by 1 p.m. CT.
On Friday, August 1, McKinley, the highest-ranked, uncommitted defensive lineman in Louisiana, announced his commitment to LSU over a final four that included Texas, Florida, and Tennessee.
LSU entered “Decision Day” as the Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) leader, holding all four of the predictions made, including one from The Bengal Tiger’s Shea Dixon and Rivals National Recruiting Analysts Steve Wiltfong and Sam Spiegelman.
With McKinley’s brother, former 5-star Dominick McKinley, in line to start at defensive tackle for LSU this season, and strong relationships built with the Acadiana High rising senior, the Tigers led wire-to-wire in the battle for McKinley’s college commitment.
“They make everyone feel at home, and if you can’t feel that at a college, then you shouldn’t be there,” McKinley told Rivals.
“The staff has treated me like I’m already a player over there … I already know a lot of them and they’re all great people.”
McKinley is commitment No. 17 for LSU’s 2026 class, which remains ranked in the Top 10 as the Tigers battle for the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.

LSU already has a pair of 5-stars committed on the defensive line in Louisiana’s Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson, who are ranked as the No. 1 and No. 2 prospects in the Bayou State for the 2026 class.
With McKinley committing to LSU, three Louisiana defensive linemen are on board in addition to commitments from a pair of EDGE rushers out of Florida in DeAnthony Lafayette and Trenton Henderson, with Henderson headed into his senior season as the No. 6 EDGE rusher in the country on the Rivals Industry Rankings.
And, LSU is likely just get going with commitment dominos dropping – potentially – in favor of the Tigers this month.
Following McKinley’s commitment to LSU on August 1, the Tigers will have hats on the table for August announcements from defensive lineman Deuce Geralds, wide receiver Jase Mathews, and offensive lineman Darius Gray. Geralds is set to announce his commitment on Saturday, August 2, and LSU is battling Oregon for the top spot on a lengthy list of college offers for the Top 10 defensive lineman out of the Peach State.
