Hollywood (Fla.) McArthur four-star 2027 safety Jaylyn Jones committed to Miami Monday evening to give the Hurricanes their third commitment of the next cycle and second commitment of the day. The Hurricanes also landed coveted four-star 2026 receiver Vance Spafford Monday afternoon.

Jones has quickly emerged as one of the young South Florida stars in next year’s cycle and committed to the Hurricanes over Florida State, Texas A&M and Missouri. The No. 220 overall prospect and No. 24 safety in the On3 Industry Ranking recorded 82 tackles, three interceptions, three sacks, 14 pass breakups and one forced fumble his sophomore year at Davie (Fla.) Western. Jones visited Miami multiple times this spring and appeared to take the next step on 7-on-7 circuits by showing his range and mobility as a safety. He also visited Florida this past weekend for the Gators’ last recruiting event before the start of the summer dead period.

Jones joins No. 12 overall prospect and four-star cornerback Kenton Dopson (who will have a strong chance to be a five-star recruit in future rankings) and No. 99 overall prospect and No. 19 receiver Ah’Mari Stevens in Miami’s 2027 class, which is now off to a remarkably strong start. Miami is still the strong team to beat for both Dopson and Stevens.

Miami’s staff became high on Jones this spring following his sophomore season evaluation and fell in love with his burst to the ball, physicality and ability to play the deep ball. His 6-foot, 180-pound frame at this age also suggests he’ll be able to put on weight relatively easily and will likely continue to grow.

Jones immediately becomes one of the foundational cornerstones of Miami’s 2027 class and gives the Canes a great start to what could become an elite secondary class, particularly if Dopson’s stock holds steady.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami is on a recruiting heater unlike anything we’ve seen under head coach Mario Cristobal. The Hurricanes added 2026 four-star recruits Spafford Monday and Asharri Charles Sunday and are well positioned to nab Israel Briggs and Tyran Evans later in the week. The Hurricanes also continue to do well with four-star prospects like Jasen Lopez and Nolan Wilson and are in the driver’s seat for three-star priorities Freddie Wilson and Zachery Turner.
