Michigan has finally set a date for a return trip to Oregon for men’s basketball. According to college hoops insider Jon Rothstein, the Wolverines will head to Eugene, Oregon for a Dec. 2 showdown.

It will be a game that closes out a home-and-home series that kicked off when Oregon came to Crisler Center in 2019 and beat the Wolverines 71-70. The COVID-19 pandemic and other factors made it tough to get on the schedule, but it is finally there.

The long wait was a point of contention for Oregon head coach, who took a shot at Michigan last fall.

“They have a hard time answering the phone I guess.,” Altman said, per Oregon Live. “They owe us a game and we fully expect them to repay the game. I’m sure if the shoe was on the other foot they would expect us to return it and we sure in the hell expect them to return it.”

Michigan’s Juwan Howard took issue with the talk of “owing” Oregon a game.

“Last that I read in the contract it states that we don’t owe them a game,” Howard told reporters in October. “If I recall, last time in that contract I wasn’t here when we signed it; I think it was with coach (John) Beilein. And with our schedule, it’s hard to fit that game in this year and possibly next year, but we’ll see what the future holds.

“But owed, that word owed, that’s very tricky, owed. I owe my wife a kiss tonight.”

Michigan quote of the day

“Now … how does Ryan Day respond? One thing about Jim Tressel, for example … he changed things up for the Wolverines, broke tendency. In some games, he’d set Michigan safeties up to get comfortable, only to burn them (either run or pass) with a big play by catching them off guard. Whether it was a receiver completely behind the defense, a 50- or -60-yard touchdown run at their expense … he was better than anyone we’d ever seen at scouting U-M and taking advantage.

“We’ll see what Day comes up with. The last two years, though, Michigan flat out dominated the second halves. That’s pretty telling.”
