Mississippi State LB Donterry Russell entering the transfer portal

After not being a part of the team this spring, Mississippi State junior linebacker Donterry Russell is heading to the transfer portal.
Russell was a flashy pass rusher in his redshirt freshman season of 2023, but played in just one game this past season. He got to play in nine career games making 23 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. His biggest impact came as a redshirt freshman in 2023 when he made five tackles with 2.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks against Alabama in his Bulldog debut.
Russell had four tackles in the season-opener last year against Eastern Kentucky but couldn’t find the field again the rest of the season. Sources indicated he was no longer on the team by the time spring rolled around.

The Jackson native played ball at Provine High School and his 6’4, 225-pound frame and pass rushing ability made him an intriguing prospect trying to get after the quarterback. Russell had 45 tackles with 14.5 TFL, 6.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble his senior year.
He is the younger brother of former defensive end Demonte Russell.
Russell is the fourth former Bulldog scholarship player to enter the spring portal on Wednesday. He joins offensive linemen Jesse Ramil and Jacorey Whitted as well as defensive lineman Mason Clinton.
