One of the south’s top All-Star games is back this season as Mississippi and Alabama will clash in December with some of the top players in both states set to do battle.

The rosters for team Mississippi were announced on Wednesday morning in Clinton as Laurel head coach Ryan Earnest and his staff made their selections. Among those picks are eight Mississippi State commitments.

The staff selected two Bulldog verbals on the offensive line as Vancleave’s Dalton Toothman and Ocean Springs’ Jayden Ross making the cut. Also on the list among the linemen is LSU commitment Bryson Cooley who has been two Starkville twice this season for gameday visits and the Bulldogs continue to work the lines to get him flipped to maroon and white.

One of State’s prized recruits of the class is Tupelo’s Jaeden “JJ” Hill who was one of two running backs selected. Hill led his Golden Wave team to its first state championship a season ago and this year has been playing quarterback for the team.

Three wide receivers made the team with State ties as Grenada’s Zayion Cotton, Canton’s Jayden Cration and Noxubee County’s Jaiden Taylor were all selected. Taylor also plays defensive back and is expected to play on defense in Starkville. He is the younger brother of Bulldog quarterback Kamario Taylor.

Finally, the Bulldogs also have a pair of defensive backs on the list as Holmes County’s Terrell Johnson and Pascagoula’ Tomareo Johnson were selected.

The MS/AL Game is set for Saturday, December 13 at Noon this season and will take place in Hattiesburg at Southern Miss’ M.M. Roberts Stadium.

In the North/Side All-Star Game – set for Saturday, December 20 (11:30 a.m.) at Gulfport High School – the Bulldogs have another commitment on the list in D’Iberville LB Caleb Triplett. The defensive stalwart has missed the first part of the season with an injury.

Also of note, former Bulldog running back Nick Griffin was named to the South’s coaching staff as the Perry Central head coach will join Terry head coach Kris Thigpen.
