McComb High School’s Sanfrisco Magee had a few twists and turns in his recruiting process. But on Wednesday, the 2024 receiver and On3 three-star prospect officially saw his recruitment conclude.

The 6-foot-3 and 190-pound Magee was officially announced as a 2024 Mississippi State signee on Wednesday, nearly two months after he committed to the Bulldogs during his December official visit. Magee is rated as the nation’s No. 120 receiver and the state’s No. 21 prospect by On3 composite rankings.

Magee initially committed to Ole Miss last summer but continued to have a good relationship with State receiver coach Chad Bumphis. Then once head coach Jeff Lebby took over the Bulldogs’ program in late November, Magee started to see more of an opportunity in Starkville.

“Coach Lebby has a good offense and he has coached a lot of good offenses,” Magee mentioned. “He believes I can step in right away and help at receiver. I think he is going to help change things around there and they stayed on me even during their coaching changes.”

And during that State official visit in December, Magee got to learn more about Lebby’s plans for State’s offense and his role within that offensive system.

“Coach Bump has been telling me that I have a chance to play in that receiver room,” notd Magee. “When I went there for a visit, Coach Lebby showed me the stuff he did at Oklahoma and I liked what I saw. He likes me at outside receiver and I feel like it is a good fit for me because he likes throwing the football a lot.”

And with Bumphis, that was another factor that kept Mississippi State on his mind throughout his recruiting process.

“I’ve had a good relationship with Coach Bump for several months now and we’re always texting each other,” added Magee. “Plus, Coach Bump has been in my shoes before and he knows about recruiting. He’s been talking to me about JJ (Harrell) and Stonka (Braylon Burnside) and he said our group could be the best receiver class to come through Mississippi State.”

On paper, Magee is now part of one of State’s most-talented receiver classes in recent memory. He joins the likes of On3 four-star receivers JJ Harrell and Mario Craver along with On3 composite four-star receiver Braylon Burnside and On3 three-star receiver Ricky Johnson. The Bulldogs also brought in transfer receivers Kelly Akharaiyi (UTEP) and Kevin Coleman (Louisville) last month.

“I like how we are getting good guys to make the offense better,” Magee added. “Being around guys like JJ and Stonka (Burnside) and Mario, it’s going to push all of us and make our room better. And I am ready for it. It’s good to know I am getting closer to enrolling. I want to learn the plays as fast as I can so I can get on the field early.”

In his senior season at McComb High School, Magee finished the year with 48 catches for 1,229 yards and 15 touchdowns. While his prep career concluded on the gridiron, he remains active in other sports and is hoping to capture a couple of championships this spring.

“I am still playing basketball and we will be in track soon,” Magee said. “I am doing the hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump. I made it to state last year in the triple jump and long jump so I am trying to win those events this year.”
