Selection Monday has arrived. NC State knows it didn’t earn one of the 16 national seeds, so it is set to hit the road for the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament this weekend. Now, it’s just a matter of finding out where it will begin its quest for another College World Series appearance.

This year will mark the Pack’s fourth road regional in the last five tournaments. It has advanced past the opening weekend just once out of that stretch — the 2021 Ruston Regional, which NC State won as the 2-seed to advance to the Fayetteville Super Regional and eventually the College World Series.

Here’s the latest look at the Wolfpack’s most-recent NCAA Tournament projections ahead of Monday afternoon’s selection show (12 p.m., ESPN2).

Where does NC State project?

Baseball America slotted the Wolfpack the 2-seed in the Baton Rouge Regional, hosted by No. 6 LSU. NC State’s opening game projection is against Oklahoma State, while Central Connecticut is also in this field. The winner of the four-team grouping would face the top team from the Tallahassee Regional, hosted by No. 11 Florida State.

D1Baseball, meanwhile, projected NC State as a 2-seed in the Knoxville Regional, hosted by No. 14 national seed Tennessee. The Pack would be joined by Western Kentucky and Miami (Ohio) in that pod. The winner of that weekend would be set to play the winner of the Chapel Hill Regional, hosted by No. 3 North Carolina.

NCAA Tournament Resume

NC State finished the season with an RPI of 34 going into the selection show as it went just 3-7 across its last 10 games. The Wolfpack was 7-9 against Quad 1 teams, while it was 7-1 in Q2, 9-7 in Q3 and 10-2 in Q4. It has a strength of schedule of 29, while the squad holds an 11-10 record outside of Doak Field (22-9).

Wherever the Wolfpack is sent, it will need to find a way to bring its own energy away from home, where it has struggled to find consistent success this spring.
