While NC State had eight players selected, including a pair of incoming freshmen that are expected to sign with their respective teams, the Wolfpack did get good news with different signee.

Vincent DeCarlo, who was viewed as the No. 20 catcher in the draft by Baseball America, announced he will play at NC State for his freshman year via social media. The highly-coveted backstop was not drafted this weekend, but he reaffirmed his commitment to the Wolfpack.

The 6-foot, 185-pound catcher was among the top signees in the Pack’s 2025 recruiting class. He hit a career-best .392 with seven doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI in 34 games as a senior at Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit High. He also walked 15 times with 15 strikeouts as he posted a .500 on-base percentage this past spring.

DeCarlo’s senior campaign was characteristic of his entire high school career. The catcher logged a career batting average of .341 with 20 doubles, a triple, seven home runs and 57 RBI across 97 games at the high school level.

DeCarlo was ranked as the No. 29 recruit from the State of Florida — the No. 2 catcher — by Perfect Game. He was also the No. 281 overall high school recruit in the nation and the No. 21 catcher in the outlet’s rankings.

Now that DeCarlo, who committed to the Wolfpack in Aug. 2022, will officially suit up for NC State, he brings stability to the team’s catching department. Senior Drew Lanphere is likely the projected starter behind the plate to begin the 2026 season, but redshirt freshman Preston Bonn and DeCarlo are expected to push for playing time as well.

Although DeCarlo, who is already in Raleigh, is set to play for the Wolfpack next spring, incoming shortstop Aidan West and incoming right-handed pitcher CJ Gray will most likely not. West, the top draft prospect from Maryland, was picked in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Rodgers, while Gray was selected in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Angels on Monday afternoon.

DeCarlo is joined by Youngville (N.C.) Eastern Carolina Academy outfielder Everett Johnson, Coral Springs (Fla.) right-handed pitcher Michael Ragusa, Wilmington (N.C.) Ashley infielder Quinn Bentley, Cary (N.C.) Broughton right-handed pitcher Sam Harris, Apex (N.C.) Friendship left-handed pitcher Luke Hemric and Braselton (Ga.) Rabun Gap Nacoohee right-hander Aiden Kitchings in the Pack’s incoming freshman class.
