After finishing up his tenth season with NC State in 2022, head coach Dave Doeren received a contract extension that, per an Wolfpack press release, will run through the Dec. 31, 2027. The Board of Trustees approved the deal Friday.

The contract is a one-year addition to the one he signed in 2022. Previous reporting by The Wolfpacker shares that the head coach earned $5 million annually following his last extension, which was a a $1.5 million raise from his previous salary.

NC State wrapped up last season with an 8-5 record as Doeren navigated through the year with four different starting quarterbacks. According to NC state, his 72 career wins in Raleigh are the second-most in program history, and he could surpass the top mark set by Earle Edwards from 1954 to 1970 if he wins 6 more games.

“We are very proud of the standard and culture that Dave has established for our football program,” Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said in the press release. “We look forward to seeing him build on the progress we have enjoyed on and off the field under his leadership.”

Doeren also issued a statement on what the extension means to him.

“I’m very grateful to Chancellor [Randy] Woodson and Boo Corrigan for their commitment to our program and for all of the support they’ve given me personally,” Doeren said in the press release. “This is home and I’m excited about the future of Wolfpack football.”

Doeren is the second-longest tenured head coach in the ACC, trailing only Clemson’s Dabo Swinney. In 9 of his 10 seasons with the program, he won at least 7 games and brought several bowl game trophies back to Raleigh. NC State finished in the top-25 of the Associated Press Poll twice during his tenure. He has also coached two top-10 NFL Draft Picks— Bradley Chubb and Ikem Ekwonu.

NC State begins spring practice March 1, with its spring game scheduled for April 8. The Wolfpack plays a loaded home schedule this year and, after opening the 2023 season on the road against UConn Sept. 2, the program makes its season debut inside Carter-Finley Stadium against Notre Dame scheduled for Sept. 9.
