The Wolfpacker’s Tuesday Morning Newsstand

After picking up an ACC specialist of the week award Tuesday morning, the accolades continued to roll in for Christopher Dunn. The NC State graduate student placekicker was selected to the all-conference first team, and he was also named a finalist for the Lou Groza award.

The award recognizes the top kicker in college football each fall, and Dunn is now one of three finalists, joining Stanford’s Joshua Carty and Michigan’s Jake Moody.

“Dunn, a graduate student from Lexington, North Carolina, capped a record-setting career with his finest single season, going 24-for-25 on field goals,” the Lou Groza website wrote. “Both the total field goals and the 96.0% rate rank second in FBS this season, while his accuracy was the best by kickers with at least 20 attempts. 17 of those kicks came from at least 30 yards out, also the second-most in the country. Already the NC State program leader in both field goals and scoring, this season he set the ACC career records in those categories.”

While the three finalists, and eventually the winner, are selected by more than 100 FBS coaches, media members, former finalists the award, NFL kickers and sports information directors, the award committee is giving the fans a voice in the process as well.

Anyone who visits the Lou Groza website can cast a vote for their favorite of the three finalists. Here’s the link to vote.

The winner of the vote receives a one-ballot bump in the final tally, and the winner will be announced on ESPN Dec. 8.
