After three years in Raleigh, NC State offensive coordinator Tim Beck has finalized a contract to take his first collegiate head coaching job with Coastal Carolina, the school officially announced Saturday afternoon.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Sunday afternoon. This comes after The Wolfpacker reported earlier today that the Pack’s offensive coordinator emerged as the top option in the coaching search and the deal sounded close to done.

Thamel shared on twitter that Beck is set to sign a 5-year contract for almost $1 million per year after former Coastal head coach Jamey Chadwell agreed to a deal with Liberty.

“I could not be more excited to be the Head Football Coach at Coastal Carolina University. The complete alignment between Dr. Benson, Joe Moglia, and Matt Hogue has helped establish a championship program that is a tremendous fit for me and my family,” Beck said in Coastal’s press release. “I fully embrace the expectations for how we will run this program each and every day. Coastal is a special place with special people. We are humbled and honored to become a part of the Chanticleer family and the Conway community.”

The Wolfpacker reported Sunday morning that meetings may have already been underway between Beck and the Coastal Carolina athletic department.

NC State went 35-11 during Beck’s time calling plays, and he was instrumental in the development of All-ACC preseason player of the year Devin Leary and several other Wolfpack quarterbacks. During the 2021 season, he was Leary’s play caller and position coach as he racked up 3,433 passing yards and 35 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions.

In 2020, he was nominated for the Broyles award, which is given out to the nation’s top assistant coach each year.

He also recruited current true freshman standout signal-caller MJ Morris, who played in 4 games this season and threw for 648 yards, 7 touchdowns and 1 interceptions, starting for the Pack in a win over a ranked Wake Forest team. During his time coaching at Ohio State and Texas, also working as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, he mentored Sam Ehlinger, J.T. Barrett and others.

Beck and the rest of the NC State coaching staff faced a tough task this year, coaching the Wolfpack offense with 4 different starting quarterbacks. Despite the constant changes under center due to injury, the Pack finished with the No. 9 scoring offense in the ACC at 25.3 points-per-game. NC State finished the regular season No. 12 in the conference in rushing offense and No. 9 in passing.

These rumors heated up fast, with Thamel first sharing that Beck could be the next Coastal Carolina head coach on ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning.

“If Chadwell does leave Coastal Carolina, Coastal officials are ready. They’ve been preparing for Chadwell to go the last few years, he’s been one of the hottest coaches,” elaborated Thamel. “The name to look at, one of the top names that Coastal could target is NC State offensive coordinator Tim Beck.

“Expect Coastal to have a Chadwell replacement, if Chadwell leaves, by the end of the weekend.”

Coastal Carolina is coming off a Sun Belt loss to Troy Saturday and stands 9-3 following Sunday’s news of Chadwell’s departure. Liberty gave the former Chanticleers a 7-year deal with a more than $4 million per year in salary.
