NC State redshirt junior running back Delbert Mimms III entered the transfer portal, On3 learned on Sunday morning. He is the second Wolfpack player to enter the portal since the Pop-Tarts Bowl loss to Kansas State (kicker Collin Smith announced his intention to enter Saturday).

“First and foremost I would like to thank God for the opportunity of being able to do what I love,” Mimms wrote in a social media post. “I have to thank my family for always being there and pushing me towards my goals everyday and the motivation given when adversity hit.”

“I would also like to thank Coach Doeren and the rest of the coaching staff for pushing me to higher standards and installing key principals to live by,” Mimms continued. “I want to give a special thanks to my teammates for pushing me everyday and will be my brothers for life.”

The Indianapolis native was the fourth-leading rusher for the Wolfpack this season with 96 carries for 282 yards and eight touchdowns. Mimms was the team’s go-to short-yardage running back, and he was able to capitalize on that inside the 5-yard line multiple times this fall.

Mimms received a season-high 15 carries for 65 yards with a touchdown in the Wolfpack’s 48-41 win over Marshall in early-October. He also had 14 carries for 44 yards and a score in the team’s season finale win over North Carolina.

The running back also had three receptions for 23 yards this fall out of the backfield.

Mimms’ production this season was a career best. He had 27 carries for 113 yards last fall as a reserve back, while he had six attempts for 47 yards in the 2021 season. He logged five receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown last season. All eight of his career rushing touchdowns came this fall.

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound running back redshirted the 2019 season before he played in every game on special teams during the 2020 campaign. He paced the team in special teams snaps in the 2021 season with 261, while he was second on the team in those snaps in the 2022 fall with 160.

Mimms has one year of eligibility remaining after five seasons at NC State.
